Australia beat Pakistan by five wickets in the second day-night international in Dubai on Friday, taking an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series: (SCORECARD - PAKISTAN VS AUSTRALIA)

Pakistan squandered an opening stand of 126 between openers Sarfraz Ahmed (65) and Ahmed Shahzad (61) as they were bowled out for 215 in 49.3 overs.

Paceman Mitchell Johnson took 3-40.

Australia survived early jolts to reach their target in 43.2 overs, with Glenn Maxwell (76) and skipper George Bailey (28) sharing an 85-run partnership for the fourth wicket.

The third and final match will be played in Abu Dhabi on Sunday.

Australia's run chase wasn't a good one either as they lost Finch and Smith early. Warner was batting well but holed out, thanks to a terrific catch by Mohammad Irfan. Then Maxwell and Bailey shared a crucial partnership between them. Bailey was run out but Maxwell scored a stylish 76-run knock. The Pakistani bowlers couldn't really provide much threat to the Australian batsmen as they were cruising. Faulkner and Haddin finished things off as Australia completed another victory.

With this victory Australia have sealed the series 2-0 with one match to go. They are unbeaten so far in this UAE tour. Today they didn't really get off to a good start. The Pakistani openers gave their team a solid start with a century partnership but then lost the plot completely. Their middle order failed miserably as Australia came back hard, restricting Pakistan to a below par total.

Preparations for next year’s ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 will go up a notch this week when Pakistan hosts Australia in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in a three-match One-Day International (ODI) series, and world champion and number-one ranked India welcomes West Indies for a five-match ODI series.

The first of the two simultaneous series gets underway at Sharjah Cricket Stadium on Tuesday, 7 October, and a 3-0 series victory for Australia will see it ascend to 114 points.

This result will give the four-time world champion the number-one ranking on the Reliance ICC ODI Team Rankings provided the West Indies wins, at least, two matches in its five-ODI series against India, which starts on Wednesday, 8 October in Kochi. This scenario will see India stay on 113 ratings points, alongside South Africa, but it will be ranked behind the Proteas when the ratings are calculated beyond the decimal point to slip from the number-one spot.

However, if India wins all five matches of the series, it will rise to 116 ratings point and grab sole position on top of the table. A 4-1 win for India and 3-0 win for Australia will put both the sides on 114 ratings points, but Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s side will retain the number-one position by a fraction of a point.

Australia, which trails third-ranked Sri Lanka by a fraction of a point, will move ahead of Angelo Mathews’ side if it wins the series against Pakistan.

If India beats the West Indies 3-2 and Australia defeats Pakistan 2-1, then South Africa will move to the top of the table.

There is an added incentive for three of the four competing sides in these series.

India and West Indies are in Pool B of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 and this series will provide them an excellent opportunity to examine each other ahead of their match at the WACA on Friday, 6 March 2015.

Pakistan is also in Pool B and will be keeping an eye on both India and the West Indies, as the 1992 world champion will go head to head with these sides in Adelaide on 15 February and in Christchurch on 21 February, respectively.

Australia is in Pool A of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015, and will kick off its campaign with a Valentine’s Day clash against England in Melbourne.

Pakistan v Australia

In the Reliance ICC Player Rankings for ODI Batsmen, Pakistan captain Misbah-ul-Haq currently sits in 12th place, while the other batsmen from his side into the top 50 include Ahmed Shehzad (17th), MohaUmar Akmal (21st) and Shahid Afridi (50th).

George Bailey (fourth) is Australia’s highest-ranked batsman, and he trails third-ranked Virat Kohli by eight ratings points. Australia players eyeing upward movements include Aaron Finch and Glenn Maxwell (joint 25th), David Warner and James Faulkner (joint 43rd) and Phil Hughes (47th).

In the ICC Players Rankings for ODI Bowlers, Mitchell Johnson will start off as the highest-ranked bowler from either side, in seventh position.

India v West Indies

Third-ranked Virat Kohli will be aiming to reclaim his number-one ranking on the Reliance ICC Player Rankings for ODI Batsmen when he takes the field against the West Indies. Kohli surged to the top of the table earlier this year but slipped after missing the series against Bangladesh. He now trails number-one ranked AB de Villiers by 24 ratings points.

Captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni (sixth) and opener Shikhar Dhawan (seventh) are the other India batsman featuring inside the top 10.



For the West Indies, Darren Bravo (37th) is its high-ranked batsman, while Lendl Simmons is in 40thposition. Both will be looking to gain ground on their nearest competitors when the action gets underway on 8 October.

In the ICC Players Rankings for ODI Bowlers, Ravindra Jadeja is India’s top ranked bowler in fifth spot, 13 points shy of England’s James Anderson. In Sunil Narine’s absence, 18th placed Kemar Roach is the West Indies top ranked bowler and he will be keen to progress up the leaderboard.

Jadeja also has a chance to climb the ICC Player Rankings for All-rounders as he currently sits in third place, five points off Sri Lanka’s Mathews.

LAHORE LIONS NEWS!!!!!!!

Bangalore: Suryakumar Yadav has been reported for a suspect illegal bowling action, becoming the fifth bowler to be called in the just concluded Champions League Twenty20 tournament. 

Yadav, Kolkata Knight Riders' part-time offspinner, was reported during his side's defeat in Saturday night's final against Chennai Super Kings and has been placed on the 'warning list'. 

"After all video evidence of the match was taken into account, on-field umpires Rod Tucker and Kumar Dharmasena along with third umpire S Ravi felt that there was a flex action in his elbow beyond the acceptable limit when bowling during the match," a release stated. 

Before Yadav, his teammate Sunil Narine, Dolphins' Prenelan Subrayen and Adnan Rasool andMohammed Hafeez of Lahore Lions were also reported for illegal action. 

Under the CLT20 Suspected Illegal Bowling Action policy, Yadav may request an Official Assessment from the BCCI Suspect Bowling Action Committee. 

If a player receives a report while on the warning list, the player shall be suspended from bowling in any matches organised by the BCCI until such date as he is cleared. 

A player suspended from bowling may continue to be selected to play in matches, however he will not be entitled to bowl.

Mo HaFEEZ DEFIANT!!!!

Mohammad Hafeez has defiantly suggested that he has no need to modify his bowling action less than a week after he was reported during a Champions League game.

Hafeez was one of four offspinners reported by Kumar Dharmasena, a former ICC umpire of the year, during the Champions League, but it would have needed a second report for any of them to be banned from bowling in the tournament.

Although any sanction would have only applied to Indian-run domestic tournaments, Hafeez is bound to feel that his action will be under greater scrutiny than normal during Pakistan's series against Australia that begins with a Twenty20 international in Dubai on Sunday.

"I am surprised over my action being reported because I am bowling like this for the last 11 years," he said. "I have played six major world events: two World Cups and three World Twenty20s and nobody had ever questioned my action, this is a big surprise for me.

"I will bowl the same way I have been bowling throughout my career. I don't bowl a doosra. I bowl simple offbreaks and that doesn't come under chucking."

Hafeez has a wealth of experience, with over 200 international wickets behind him, and his action has never attracted widespread qualms, but his suggestion that he cannot be questioned because he does not bowl a doosra will cause raised eyebrows: chucking a conventional offspinner is entirely possible.

Three new ICC testing centres are now operational, with Brisbane and Chennai joining Cardiff on the list of approved facilities, and there seems to be a clear campaign against potentially illegal actions - with offspinners to the fore - before next year's World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.

Pakistan's coach, Waqar Younis, has expressed misgivings that the development could "shatter" Hafeez's confidence but the player himself issued a strong-willed defence of his action before departing with the rest of the squad to the UAE.

The ICC began a crackdown on illegal bowling actions in June. Sri Lanka's Sachithra Senanayake and New Zealand's Kane Williamson were suspended, Saeed Ajmal followed, with his conventional offspinners, not just his doosra, also found to be beyond the 15 degree maximum of arm straightening permitted in the regulations.

LAHORE LIONS!!!

Perth Scorchers (130/7) defeated Lahore Lions (124/6) by three wickets on Tuesday, ensuring the Pakistani outfit wouldn't qualify for the semi-finals of the 2014 Twenty20 Champions League.

Lahore Lions knew they needed to win big on Tuesday to have any chance of passing Chennai Super Kings' net run rate, and the Pakistani outfit were desperate to bowl first. Perth won the toss and decided otherwise, however.

As shared by Bleacher Report's Freddie Wilde, their day couldn't have gotten off to a much worse start:

Lions' strength is their bowling, and a solid target would have made things far easier on the squad. Instead, they were forced into playing catch-up before the middle overs had even started.
